Science in Motion! 

Tuesday, March 5th at 2:00 pm at the 1835 Town Hall

Come to a fascinating and fresh display of the wonders of science presented by renowned comic Rob Rivest. Rob combines science, art, and comedy to create a highly entertaining  and educational show!  On this teacher development day, young people are invited to spend some of their day off enjoying this interactive program. Be inspired–and laugh a lot, too! All ages. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Sterling Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Picture Book Club 

Wednesday, March 6th at 4:30 pm

The Picture Book Club will read Bird Count by Susan Edwards Richmond. Come have fun with friends while we read and discuss that book and a few more about our wonderful feathered friends. Children will also make birdfeeders so they can watch birds at home! Books can be checked out at the library (participants do not need to bring their copy to the meeting). Open to children in grades K-2.

Explorers’ Club: How to Be Annoying

This month, embrace your inner imp with the Explorers’ club! We will experiment with all kinds of annoying techniques.  Don’t miss this chance to practice making embarrassing noises, learn some cheerful earworms, and brainstorm ideas for a fabulous April Fools’ Day (yep, we’re celebrating early) with fellow Irritants-in-Training. Family Paint Time: Spring Birches

Wednesday, March 20th at 4:30 pm

Come to the library and paint along as we create a charming spring landscape featuring budding birch trees. We will explore several painting techniques to capture these distinctively pretty trees on canvas.  Ages 6 and up; under 10 must have a supervising caregiver, who gets to paint along!

Choose Your Own Adventure Book Club

Monday, March 25th at 4:30 pm

Do your kids enjoy book club, but struggle to finish the book on time with all their other commitments? If so, then our new Choose Your Own Adventure book club is for them! Kids in grades 2 to 5 are invited to an interactive book club, no advanced reading required. As we read R. A. Montgomery’s Race Forever aloud, attendees will have multiple opportunities to decide where the story goes. After we read the story we will do a race car craft.

Half Day Hoops!

Wednesday, March 27th at 2:00 pm at Sterling Senior Center

Kat Suwalski, founder of WildKat Hoops, will come to Sterling to lead us in her unique brand of joyful hula hooping.  Kids can mark the WRSD early dismissal day with some healthy and creative indoor play, and everyone else can join in the fun! Dance, play and exercise while learning to wield your hoop. Show off your moves and learn some new tricks–as Kat says, life is better with a hoop in your hands! Come ready to move. Hoops will be provided. For ages 5-105.

Peep Catapults and Nests

Monday, April 1st at 4:30 pm

Kids in grades K-5 are invited to build simple catapults and practice using them as they launch peeps at varying distances. After they have tired out their peeps, participants will build a cozy nest for them to nap in. All supplies will be provided.

You and Me Paint Time

Wednesday, April 10th at 4:30 and 6:30 pm

This special paint time will have grownups and children working on joint masterpieces! Paint along as we create Highland Cow families - children can paint the calves, and their grownups the bulls/cows; 2-5 paintings can be displayed together to create one big picture. These shaggy cows in a spring meadow will be fun to create, are sure to brighten up any room, and will make a lasting memory, too! Ages 5 and up with accompanying adult artists.

Kids No-Bake Kool Aid Pie

Tuesday, April 16th at 11:00 am

Come celebrate school vacation week with bright red Kool Aid pie. Kids ages 8 and up are invited to make their very own Kool Aid Pie. It will make it home for chilling, but will you share it? That part’s up to you! All ingredients are provided. Please bring a large spoon for mixing.

Air Dry Clay

Wednesday, April 17th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm

Kids of all ages and their caregivers are invited to drop in to make miniature air dry creations. Available while supplies last.

Kids of all ages are invited to stop by to paint by sticker. Painting by sticker is a fun, no-mess activity that results in a beautiful mosaic. Available while supplies last.

DIY Mini Dry Erase Boards for Kids

As vacation week winds down, kids ages 7 and up are invited to make their own mini dry erase boards. Kids will enjoy personalizing these useful, easy to use dry erase boards. They may even check their cool new boards for helpful reminders throughout the week!

Homeschool Art and Fun

Come join other homeschoolers to make fairy houses and gnome homes! Using a multimedia approach, children will fashion their own home for tiny friends. The library will provide all the materials for this open ended activity. For ages 6-16 (parents are encouraged to stay with our youngest children).
